So I have a new hobby. Gaming. Not the console kind where finger agility is the determining factor and Garmin makes a “fitness” watch. But board and card games. Played in person. With old friends. And. hopefully new ones too.
Why Gaming?
Games played in person are simply so much more fun. Whether you are super competitive and take a game seriously, or lighter in your approach, Gaming is a wonderful chance to get to know more about people you already care about. For me, the games are just a means to an end: to spend more time with people I cherish and to get to know them better.
Games take all different forms, from lighter to more complex. It is estimated that over 100,000 boardgames now exist.
My Collection.
I was lucky. A good friend of mine was moving internationally and left me his collection on loan. I also early on was able to buy part of someone’s collection. The net result is that I was able to assemble a diverse and fun collection of games fairly cheaply. However, one thing that has surprised me. Some games have actually appreciated in value! Others seem to hold their value relatively well. So the discount for buying used be smaller than you think! (Hint: If you want to buy. me a present, check out my Wishlist. :-)).
Prior Board Game Nights.
Game Nights with friends are so much fun! Below are some pictures from prior game nights!
